About Jumol Royes

The Compassionate Communicator

I am Jumol Royes, a strategic communications consultant, storyteller and advocate for equity and belonging.

With over 15 years of experience, I deliver integrated communications strategies, engaging content and tailored media relations campaigns to Canadian organizations, including:

  • non-profits,

  • community and social service agencies,

  • public sector organizations,

  • philanthropic foundations and

  • advocacy groups.

From conceiving a York Region-wide mental health awareness campaign for Your Support Services Network and developing and distributing close to 13,000 copies of a guide designed to help vulnerable individuals access community services, to co-creating and launching a national 2SLGBTQI+ resource directory featuring more than 325 programs and services curated to help folks find support and safer spaces — my work builds trust, inspires action and calls people in.

When an Ottawa food bank needed to promote a fundraising initiative, I coordinated a media tour that helped them surpass their goal. And when the City of Vaughan committed to addressing anti-Black racism, I used advocacy and storytelling to bring people together to reimagine Black futures.

As a freelance writer for Broadview Magazine, Xtra Magazine, the CBC and other outlets, I cover social justice issues impacting equity-deserving communities.

I completed the Digital Strategy and Communications Management program at the University of Toronto and was awarded the Order of Vaughan for excellence in media and communications.

I’m guided by the Jamaican proverb that says: “If you do good, good will follow you.” Let’s do some good work together.
